Polls
Polls with buttons instead of reactions — with bars, an end date and an anonymous variant.
/umfrage start frage:Wann wipen wir? antworten:Freitag | Samstag | Sonntag
Done. The bot puts the poll in the channel, and every answer gets a button.
Why buttons and not reactions
Most bots make polls with reactions. That looks the same and cannot do three things:
- limit to one vote — with reactions everybody clicks everything
- evaluate anonymously — everybody sees straight away who chose what
- close properly — reactions carry on even when the poll is over
With buttons the bot decides what is counted and what is shown.
The settings
/umfrage start frage:… antworten:… stunden:48 mehrfach:true anonym:false
- stunden (hours) — the running time.
0means: runs until somebody ends it. 24 by default. - mehrfach (multiple) — several answers at the same time are allowed.
- anonym (anonymous) — the interim result stays hidden until the poll ends.
You separate answers with a vertical bar. Ten at most; duplicates the bot throws away, because two identical bars make the result unreadable.
What "anonym" really means
It is not about secrecy, it is about nobody voting along with the trend. As long as an anonymous poll is running, no numbers are shown — only at the end. Anyone who has already voted sees their own choice in the confirmation.
The bot does still store who voted. Otherwise there would be no way to stop somebody voting as often as they like. It is not visible to anyone on the server.
Changing your vote
Anyone who presses the same answer again takes their vote back. Anyone who picks a different one
replaces it — except with multiple choice, where it is added. Under /umfrage setup, changing can
be switched off if it is meant to be binding on your server.
Ending a poll
Polls with an end date the bot closes itself, and it shows the result with a 🏆 next to the leading answer. Ending one early works with:
/umfrage beenden
/umfrage liste
If a poll ran out while the bot was restarting, it catches up on that at startup.
Who may start one
Everyone with the Nachrichten verwalten (manage messages) permission, plus the roles from
/umfrage setup. Everyone may vote — that is the point.
