Levels & Ranking

Whoever joins the conversation collects points and moves up. From certain levels onwards there are roles. It is the oldest trick for keeping a community active — and it still works.

The bot does not read messages

This is important enough for a section of its own. Discord tells the bot that something was written in a channel. What it says, the bot does not see — that would need the "Message Content" permission, and Fishbot deliberately does not ask for it.

For a level system that is entirely enough: what gets counted is activity, not content.

The cooldown is the fairness dial

Between two awards of points there is a cooldown, 60 seconds by default. Without it, whoever types "a" fastest wins — with it, whoever is around across the day wins. You should not go below 30 seconds.

The points per message are a range (15–25 by default), not a fixed number. Otherwise your own score could be worked out exactly and farmed optimally.

Level curve

The same formula as the well-known bots: quick successes at first, noticeably tougher later. Deliberately adopted rather than reinvented — anyone switching over from another bot finds the curve they are used to.

Role rewards

Under /level setup in the field Rollen-Belohnungen (role rewards), format Level:Rollen-ID:

You get the role ID by right-clicking the role (Entwicklermodus, developer mode, has to be on). A broken entry is skipped, the others stay valid.

With Vorherige Belohnungsrolle abnehmen (remove the previous reward role) only the highest rank role is ever kept. Off means: they pile up.

Exceptions

Three lists that almost always pay off in practice:

• Kanäle ohne Punkte (channels without points) — spam, bot and quote channels
• Rollen ohne Punkte (roles without points) — bots, say, or a test team
• Rollen mit doppelten Punkten (roles with double points) — server boosters, regulars

Moving over from another bot

/level setzen writes a score directly. That lets you carry over values from another bot without anybody starting at zero.
