Temporary Voice Channels

One channel for creating them — everyone gets their own and takes it with them when they leave.

On most servers there are five voice channels: three are empty, ten people are sitting in one, and anyone who wants to talk in a pair finds no room. Temporary voice channels solve that by no longer having them as fixed channels at all.

You create one channel that you go into in order to get one of your own. The bot creates it, pulls the person in — and deletes it again as soon as the last one has gone.

Setting it up

/sprachkanal setup

Two entries are enough:

  • Kanal zum Erstellen (channel for creating) — the voice channel you enter. Name it so that it is clear what happens: "➕ Kanal erstellen" is better than "Lobby".
  • Kategorie (category) — where the new channels are filed. Leaving it empty means: the same category as the creator channel.

The name of the new channels follows a template. 🔊 {user} becomes "🔊 Timo"; with {nummer} you get a running number instead.

The control panel

On creation the bot sends a message with four buttons into the new channel:

Button What it does
✏️ Umbenennen A new name for the channel
👥 Größe How many people fit in (0 = unlimited)
🔒 Abschließen Nobody else gets in; whoever is inside stays
👑 Übernehmen The channel passes to you if the owner is gone

You can switch off each of these buttons in the settings. Taking over is always there — it is the answer to the most common case of all: the person who made the channel has long been offline, and the others are still sitting in it.

When renaming does not work straight away

Discord allows two renames per channel within ten minutes. After that it silently stops — without an error message. The bot catches that and tells you, instead of leaving you to guess. Wait a moment and try again.

What the bot needs for this

Kanäle verwalten (manage channels) for creating and deleting, Mitglieder verschieben (move members) for pulling people in. If one of those is missing, nothing happens at all — you can check with /check.

Cleaning up

Channels disappear as soon as the last person leaves. If the bot restarts at exactly that moment, one is left standing; that is why it looks for forgotten channels every five minutes and clears them away. It also notices channels deleted by hand and forgets them.

/sprachkanal liste

shows which channels are currently open and who they belong to.
