Payment
Which payment methods there are, what separates a subscription from a one-off purchase, and how to get your invoice.
Payment methods
| Payment method | In a subscription | One-off purchase |
|---|---|---|
| PayPal | ✅ | ✅ |
| SEPA direct debit | ✅ | — |
| Credit & debit card | ✅ | ✅ |
| Klarna | — | ✅ |
| Apple Pay / Google Pay | ✅ | ✅ |
Why is Klarna only available for the one-off purchase? Klarna is "buy now, pay later". For a recurring subscription our payment service provider does not support that — and, to be honest, it makes little sense there either. With a one-off purchase of over 59 € that is a different matter.
Why is SEPA direct debit only available in a subscription? Because it is made for exactly that: grant a mandate once, after that it runs. For one-off purchases it is too slow — it takes days for the money to arrive, and you do not want to wait that long for your activation.
Subscription or one-off purchase?
In a subscription (monthly or yearly) the plan carries on until you cancel. With yearly payment two months are free. Cancelling is possible at any time in the dashboard with one click; the plan stays active until the end of the period paid for.
One-off for 12 months is exactly that: pay once, use it for a year, after that it ends by itself. No cancellation, no automatic renewal, no subscription you forget about. If you want to carry on afterwards, you buy again.
For communities where somebody else keeps the books — clubs, clans, school projects — the one-off purchase is usually the calmer way.
Where do I end up when paying?
On a page belonging to Stripe, our payment service provider. Card numbers, bank details and PayPal credentials never reach our servers — we only get the confirmation that payment has been made.
Invoices
For one-off purchases an invoice is created automatically and sent to you. For a subscription you will find all invoices in the customer portal: dashboard → Abo (subscription) → Rechnungen, Zahlungsmittel & Kündigung (invoices, payment methods & cancellation). That is also where you change your payment method or cancel.
When a payment fails
With direct debit and card, Stripe retries several times and sends you an email. During that time the server remains at Zahlung ausstehend (payment pending) — the features carry on working for the time being. Only once all attempts have failed does the server fall back to Free. Saved embeds and settings are retained in the process.
It still says Free after the purchase
The confirmation takes a few seconds — with direct debit it can take longer, because the money is still on its way. Reload the dashboard. If it still says Free after five minutes (with card, PayPal, Klarna), get in touch in the support Discord with your server ID.
