AutoMod Rules

Set up Discord's own word and spam filter from your dashboard.

Discord has a built-in filter that blocks messages before anyone sees them. It is good — and it hides in the server settings in a place hardly anybody finds.

This module sets it up for you.

The important difference

The rules run at Discord, not in the bot. That has three consequences:

  • Fishbot needs no access to message content — the permission it deliberately does not have.
  • The filter works even when the bot is offline.
  • Blocked messages never appear in the first place, instead of being deleted a second later.

The price: only what Discord's AutoMod can do is possible. This module does not invent anything on top.

Setting it up

/automod setup

After that:

/automod anwenden

Only this second step creates the rules at Discord. That is deliberate — it lets you configure in peace and decide yourself when it goes live.

What can be configured

Wortfilter (word filter) — your own list, one word per line or separated by commas. Discord understands wildcards:

Notation Matches
idiot exactly this word
idiot* everything that starts like this
*idiot everything that ends like this
*idiot* anywhere in the word

Standardlisten (default lists) — lists maintained by Discord for insults and sexual content. Honestly: in German they only work in part. Your own list achieves more.

Spam-Schutz (spam protection) and Einladungslinks (invite links) are switches. Erwähnungen je Nachricht (mentions per message) blocks mass pings from the configured number onwards.

What happens on a hit

Blocking always happens. On top of that you can:

  • have it written to a Meldekanal (report channel) who tried what
  • impose an Auszeit (timeout)

And you should enter Ausnahmen (exceptions): your team roles and internal channels. Otherwise the filter will one day block your own announcement, and nobody will understand why.

Checking

/automod regeln

shows every rule and whether it really exists at Discord. A ⚠️ means: somebody deleted it there by hand — /automod anwenden creates it again.

You also find the rules directly in the server settings under "AutoMod". They are called "Fishbot · …" there. If you change them there, the next sync overwrites them again.

When the module is switched off

Then the rules disappear at Discord as well — they are not supposed to keep filtering while the dashboard says everything is off.
