Starboard

Members hand out stars, and whatever gets enough of them ends up in a channel of its own.

A server thrives on good contributions being noticed. The starboard turns that into an arrangement nobody has to operate: whoever likes something reacts with ⭐ — and from enough stars onwards it stands in the hall of fame.

/star setup

One channel, one threshold, done.

What counts and what does not

This is the whole difference between a board that runs for a year and one that gets switched off after three weeks:

  • Your own stars do not count. Anyone who stars themselves up takes the point out of the board. It can be switched on, but it should not be.
  • Roles can be excluded — for people who have been warned or muted.
  • Channels can be excluded, internal team areas for instance.
  • NSFW stays out, as long as you do not explicitly allow it.
  • The board does not star itself. Otherwise an entry would reach the board a second time, and that one a third.

The symbol grows with it

With ⭐ the sign changes along with the number: ⭐ from the threshold, ✨ from eight, 💫 from fifteen, 🌟 from twenty-five. That way you can see as you scroll what really stands out. If you use an emoji of your own, it stays as it is.

What an entry contains

Author, channel, time, the message text and a button to the original. Images are shown along with it.

If a message has neither text nor image — a bare attachment, say — only the button to the original is there. The text is not stored: it stands in the entry and nowhere else.

When the stars go away again

If the number drops below the threshold, the entry disappears again — that keeps the board honest. If you do not want that, switch Eintrag wieder entfernen (remove entry again) off: then once it is on, it stays on.

If the original is deleted, the copy goes with it.

Browsing

Command What it does
/star bestenliste Who has collected the most stars
/star zufall A random entry — the reason a board is still alive months later
/star info How many stars you have collected yourself
/star setup Settings (server management only)

What the leaderboard counts is an entry's highest level, not its current one. Otherwise a position would get worse retroactively just because someone later took their star back.

What the bot needs for this

Nachrichten senden (send messages), Links einbetten (embed links) and Nachrichtenverlauf lesen (read message history) in the board channel.
